Notability PDF background disappeared?

If the PDF underneath your handwriting suddenly turns blank or disappears, the annotations may still be intact while the PDF background is missing from the exported .note package.

NoteMend is built for one specific version of this problem. It checks the exported note locally in your browser and tells you whether the supported repair is present before you pay anything.

What NoteMend checks

A Notability .note file is a package containing note data and embedded resources. NoteMend reads the package metadata and checks whether exactly one referenced PDF is missing. If that narrow condition is not present, it stops rather than guessing.

What you need

Export the affected note in Note (.note) format and keep the original PDF ready. Diagnosis is free. Your note and PDF are processed in your browser rather than uploaded to a NoteMend file server.

What the repair changes

For a supported case, NoteMend places a copy of the original PDF back into the package under the internal filename Notability expects and creates a repaired copy. It does not intentionally rewrite your handwriting or annotations, and your original file is left untouched.

When this page does not apply

Not every blank or missing Notability document is the same problem. NoteMend does not claim to recover deleted notes, missing handwriting, every sync failure, or multiple missing resources. It only offers the repair when the package matches its supported condition.
